My name is Jen and I’m the writer of Our Frugal Escapades. A blog which I started originally to track our progress as we work toward achieving financial independence through frugality.
Then after a long hiatus, I decided on a whim to switch this blog over to a space where we share our travels throughout New England.
Fast forward to place in time where we are currently facing extraordinary challenges. To a pandemic experts have now dubbed COVID-19, which has the potential to become one of the worst pandemics since the Spanish Flu back in 1918.
We have an economy that may very well catapult us into something that resembles the Great Depression – thanks to the mounting job losses in America, and the rest of the world. It doesn’t help that our daily lives have suddenly come to a grinding halt.
Every adversity brings new experiences and new lessons.Lailah Gifty Akita, Author of Pearls of Wisdom: Great mind
As a result of these unprecedented times, I have decided to refocus and resume our discussions on financial independence through frugality, alongside our travels, which will resume eventually.
On a personal note, we have been ordered by our state officials to shelter in place, which we have been adhering to 100%. My mother, who is in her 70’s, is now in isolation – and we continue to pray for our family, friends, and the rest of the world.
Financially, we are in good company. Our portfolio has taken a nose-dive and we don’t know how much longer we’ll have jobs or health insurance. I’m not going to lie, all of this uncertainty is producing a lot of anxiety in the OFE household, but we continue to keep our faith.
It’s a scary time for us! But if we support one another I know we’ll make it through to the other side.
And to my sister and brother-in-law, we thank you for being on the front lines of this pandemic, and for putting the lives of others before your own. Words cannot express how much we all appreciate it.
